Two average joes turned out to be instant heroes when their sudden decision turned into a life-saving situation.

It happened when fire broke out a home on Charleston's West Side Monday afternoon....and an elderly woman was alone inside, calling for help.

John Bacon and B.J. Morris were walking down the street. They not only jumped in to get the woman out of the burning home -- they also stayed to make sure that she was okay and that her home was too.

Firefighters say you should always leave the rescue work up to them....but they also give credit to the two men for saving the woman's life today.
