Update: Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Auto Accident, Name Released

A deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff's department was killed in a car crash early Wednesday morning. It happened just after midnight along Corridor G.

Lincoln County Chief Deputy G.K. Hensley says Justin Thompson was 25 years old.

Hensley says Thompson was working with other deputies in Alum Creek last night -- and the accident happened after he left to go to his home in Harts.

Hensley tells WSAZ it was a one car accident -- and Thompson was driving a police cruiser at the time. It's believed he lost control in Boone COUnty's Corridor G around midnight.

Friends have set up a memorial for Deputy Thompson at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.

Thompson was an Iraq War veteran and got from overseas a year-and-a-half ago.
