A Kanawha County couple pleaded guilty in federal court, to stealing copper from an American Electric Power substation.
Jeremy Johnson, of Cedar Grove, and Melissa Olish, of Hugheston, took the copper from a substation in Cabin Creek.
Johnson said he cut out copper ground rods while Olish waited in the car.
The couple then sold the copper at a recycling center for about $650.
They must pay $26,000 to AEP for damages and face up to 5 years in prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 4.
