18,000 and growing.

Thursday, West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd voted in support of tax incentive legislation and set a new high mark for most votes in the senate. Byrd already owns the record for most votes in the Senate.

"The people of West Virginia expect me to do the job that they sent me here to do, and I am doing it. This 18,000th roll call vote is a testament to their faith in me and my work for them," Robert Byrd said.

The majority of West Virginia's delegation -- U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller, Congressman Nick Rahall and Congressman Alan Mollohan were in attendance for the record vote.

Byrd leads current senators Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, Daniel Inouye of Hawaii and Ted Stevens of Alaska by some 3,000 votes for the all-time record.
