A string of break-ins overnight in Wayne County created a busy morning for WV State Police and Wayne County Sheriff's deputies.

Dave Wards Pier 152 Marine in Lavalette was just one of the businesses targeted by smash and grab thieves along the main road between Lavalette and Wayne.

Police say unidentified suspects broke windows in storefronts and cars, and got away with money and equipment in several places.

At the boat shop, an alarm put the suspects on the run, and they even dropped money on the parking lot. Dave Ward: “They came through the right door because they had about a one and half minute delay before the alarm went off and they had just enough time to find the cash and it looked like when the alarm went off it looked like they panicked and ran because they threw cash everywhere."

Police say the same people hit Thelma's Bar on 152. Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call State Police or the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
