A woman and two young children were killed after a boat and barge collided on the Ohio River in Jackson County, WV.

It happened a little after 2am just north of Ravenswood -- near where Skull Run Road intersects with Route 68.

Jackson County emergency services tells WSAZ 4-year-old Samantha Fisher and her little brother 16-month old Jesse Fisher were killed in the boating accident. Their aunt also didn't survive the crash. She is 33-year old Jennifer Posten.

The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources says three other people were hurt. The children's father, Michael Fisher, has minor injuries and was treated at the scene. His wife, Jill Fisher, and Roger Posten Jr. were both treated and released from St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington.

The DNR tells us the six were out fishing and stayed put when heavy fog rolled in. When a barge approached, the DNR says the driver of the boat tried to get out of the way, but hit the barge instead.

Divers had to be called in after the crash to help with the search..

The DNR says the fog was very heavy at the time of the accident, making visibility near zero.

The investigating officer with the DNR says alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash -- and it just appears to be an accident.

Emergency crews from both Jackson County, West Virginia, and Meigs County, Ohio, were at the scene.
