Summer is officially here and with the added excitement comes added worry.

So a safety fair put on by Advance United Methodist Church was a chance to stop trouble before it happens.

“So many Children are hurt or injured during the summer drowning and everything. We wanted to reach out to the community and just put something on that covered all the bases,“ said David King with Advance United Methodist Church.

The police department was also on hand, to break down any barriers. Phillip Kerns is with the Russell Police Department.

“This lets them know that hey we're kind of like their dad or their mom. And we're just everyday people and lets them know how we do things and if they have any questions they can ask and we'll have the answers for them.”

It’s a day that gives parents peace of mind.

“It just lets her know how she is supposed to react and I just want her to feel safe in her neighborhood,” says Amy Selvage of Raceland.
