William "Skip" Holbrook Junior is scheduled to be sworn in as Huntington's chief this afternoon at 3pm..
Holbrook's hiring was approved by City Council last night in a 9-to-nothing vote.
The 42-year-old Huntington native worked in law enforcement for more than 15 years in North Carolina before returning to the area in 2003. He currently lives in Proctorville, Ohio, but plans to move to Huntington in the near future.
Holbrook replaces Gene Baumgardner, who announced in April that he would retire after five years as police chief.
Holbrook says he wants to work with the community to resolve Huntington's crime problems.
Mayor David Felinton says Holbrook has a great background in fighting drugs, which he says continue to be a major issue in Huntington.
