A man charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a Gallia County Probation Officer has entered a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Joesph Harris was scheduled to have preliminary hearing in Gallipolis Municipal court this morning. That hearing was canceled after Harris’s attorney said his client had agreed to plead guilty to the charge.
According to Tom Martello the deal would limit Harris’s prison term to 4 years, instead of the 11 year maximum sentence. The court must still approve the plea.
Officer Dave Poling drowned while chasing Harris into Ohio River back in June. Harris had been pulled over on a traffic stop by another officer when the foot chase began.
