CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Capital Classic is not just the talk of the town -- it's the talk of the entire state.
The annual basketball game between Marshall and West Virginia universities is one of the biggest basketball games in recent history.
At Scott -Teays Elementary School in Putnam County, Wednesday wasn't just any other day -- it was game day. For the past few weeks, students have sold blue and green basketballs for $1 a piece. Each ball represents a vote either for Marshall or WVU, and proceeds go toward supporting the school's PTA.
Even though the students are young, they already realize how important the Capital Classic is to West Virginia. Teachers at the Putnam County school say it's their location that has many of the young children split over who to cheer for.
One thing they agreed on, however, is they don't like the 9 p.m. tip-off, which they say is too late. Even the fans at Wednesday's WVU luncheon in Charleston agreed that the late start was a problem.
