HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- You can help build the dream and build the future of Cabell Huntington Hospital's Children's Hospital.through buying milk.
The momentum is picking up through community creativity.
The phrase "Got Milk?" takes on a whole new meaning if you're buying it from Fruth Pharmacies. The company wanted to help Cabell Huntington Hospital build their children's hospital while giving the community ownership.
"We sat down with Broughtons and he had a great idea suggesting they put the children’s hospital logo on the Fruth brand milk and we could ask a donation for it," said Lynne Fruth with Fruth Pharmacy.
"They came to us. We didn’t say, 'Would you put our logo on your milk?' No, they came to us and said, 'We want to do this.'"
For every gallon of milk sold, Fruth will donate five cents.
It's the latest of numerous projects to raise money for the fund that already totals six million dollars -- half of the amount needed. One dollar donation tags are available at 100 area retailers and are quickly filling the pediatric unit walls. Plus, there's a 'Cats' giveaway basket including two free tickets to the now sold-out show now up for raffle.
"These funds help build the hospital in a small way, but have a very important role in that they give the community a chance to be a part of the dream," said Velma Workman, Development Outreach Coordinator.
"We’re basically going to rebuild everything within the walls of the fifth floor. We’re also going to have a special, dedicated entrance for the children and their families," said Graley while going over the plans.
"Not sure how we did it except people love children. We shouldn’t have to send our children to Columbus or Cincinnati for good care. They should be able to stay here," said Graley.
If you'd like to buy raffle tickets for the 'Cats' tickets, you can call Cabell Huntington Hospital at 304-526-2451.

At least the new wing will be within the hospital. Less chance CHH will sell it like they have done with other money donated built facilities that weren't attached to the main building.
Too bad they couldn't have picked a cleaner hospital. I was at cabell a couple of months ago, the loby was filthy and pretty foul, my five even commented how bad it smelled. It's my understanding that the same people own St. Marys and there's a difference of night and day between these two facilities. Guess its that union pride.......
I think this is the best thing for Cabell Im so excited that soon I will not have to drive all the way to Columbus every 3 months to have my childs check ups that last 15to 30 min tops..
