A former nurse accused of killing her husband by giving him an overdose of a paralyzing drug and then setting fire to their Morgantown home is being tried in Charleston. Jury selection begins Friday in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

35-year-old Michelle Michael will be tried in the 2005 death of James Michael. She is accused of giving her husband a fatal dose of a drug, and then setting fire to their 300-thousand dollar home on November 29th, 2005. Charged with first-degree murder and arson, her case was moved from Monongalia County because of pretrial publicity.

Michelle Michael, who was a nurse practitioner at Ruby Memorial Hospital's pediatric intensive care unit, also faces a lawsuit filed by her mother-in-law.

Investigators originally thought James Michael died as a result of the fire, which didn't appear suspicious. But they expanded their investigation after the drug was found in Michael's system during an autopsy. It also showed that he did not die from carbon monoxide poisoning.
