Grab your bikes and helmets! That's because a new BMX racetrack may be coming to Putnam County. The national bicycle league is considering building a track in Eleanor, but the NBL is not new to this region.
Brandon Kline is fixing bikes now, but he would much rather be racing.
“It's a lot of fun to race,” said Kline. “I was having fun whether I was coming in last or coming in first.”
It was one wild ride that quickly went downhill.
“We had high hopes that it would be something nice,” said Rusty Casto, mayor of Nitro. “For the first two years, it was going great and good, then after that it really tapered off fast.”
The BMX track in Nitro is no bikers thrill anymore. It's now a football and soccer field.
“It's really hard to find places to ride,” said Matt Purkins, from Poca.
But look no more…another place to ride may be on the way.
“It would be more safe,” said Purkins. “You don't have to worry about cars getting in the way and stuff.”
It’s a track just like the one possibly coming to Putnam County.
“I think after two years, we will be stuck with a bunch of dirt sitting everywhere, but I hope not,” said Casto.
“It may do better,” said Kline. “I don't know if the difference in the area will help it at all or how that would be. I think kids will have fun with it and like to do it.”
And a good time at the track could make for a big jump in business at the bike shop.
We contacted Putnam County Parks Board Saturday night for comment. Board members say the project is still in the beginning phase and didn't want to talk with us on camera just yet.
