Wednesday will mark the ninth anniversary of a crime that sent shock waves through Carter County, Kentucky.

On July 11th, 1998, Scotty and Doug Middleton along with their friend Randy Stevens went for a ride on their ATVs. It would be their last trip.

All three were shot to death out in the woods. The man police say pulled the trigger killed himself. Family and friends say they never got closure but they come together this time every year to remember the three young men.

Sunday hundreds of friends and relatives came out to ride the same path their loved ones took nine years ago. They say dealing with the loss has gotten a little easier but it's still tough.

Scotty's cousin says he gets comfort by making this ride every year. He says they get together and remember what a good time they all had. They try to keep their memory alive by doing what the three guys loved best.

The only suspect in the case, Ronnie Sparks, was on the run for a probation violation on a robbery conviction in Ohio. Neighbors told police he was hiding out in the cave near where the men were killed.
