Huntington High basketball standout Chris Early has been dismissed from the Oklahoma team. Sooners coach Jeff Capel offered no reason for taking that action.
The dismissal of the incoming freshman was announced yesterday in a four-paragraph news release issued by Oklahoma's sports information office.
"Chris is a good basketball player and it is my hope that he is able to lead a successful academic and athletic career at another university," Capel said in the statement. "My staff and I wish him well."
The release said no additional comment would be made.
Early, a six-foot-six guard played on three straight state high school championship teams for Huntington. He averaged eight-point-six points, four-point-one rebounds and one-point-four assists last season for a team that featured stars O-J Mayo and Patrick Patterson and finished 25-and-2 and ranked nationally.
Early signed with Oklahoma in November. At the time, Capel said he had met Early while the coach at Virginia Commonwealth. Capel is about to enter his second season at Oklahoma.
