Kathy Mattea Tours WV Coalfields

Country Music Star Kathy Mattea is flying around West Virginia Tuesday to get a closer look at Mountaintop Mining.

The Cross Lanes native boarded a plane Tuesday morning at Yeager Airport in Charleston to get an aerial tour of the coalfields near Charleston. Mattea says she wants to see for herself what's happening in her home state. The first stop is in Boone County.

A press conference is planned for 5:00pm Tuesday at the State Capitol. That's when Kathy Mattea will share her thoughts on what she got to see.

Both of Mattea's grandfathers were coal miners. Her current music project is a collection of songs about coal.

She's from cross lanes.
