Police re-opened Interstate 64 in both directions around 8:30 this morning. Two separate accidents near each other between Barboursville and Hurricane closed down the interstate in both directions right in the heart of the morning commute.

The first happened at the 30 mile marker, just east of Milton around 6:15 a.m. Friday.

Police say the driver of a car traveling west lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and slammed into a semi.

The car rolled several times before finally landing in the median.

The driver was airlifted to the hospital.

The second crash happened around 7:45 a.m. at the 24 mile marker between Barboursville and Milton.

The driver of the car received minor injuries, but did have to be cut out of the car.

WSAZ photojournalist and e-reporter Ryan Lake sent in the pictures below from the accident.
