FBI Now Investigating Charleston Murder

The FBI is now joining forces with the Charleston Police Department to investigate a murder in North Charleston.

Investigators say Jason Venanzi was beaten and shot at least once in the head at his home on Larchmont Drive.

Police believe the murder happened around 2:30pm Wednesday. Investigators say it looked like someone had been searching through his house, but they don't know if anything was taken.

WSAZ has learned Jason was a witness in a federal case. Police say Jason testified in a federal grand jury hearing about the arson at the New Life Church in Cedar Grove back in February. But right now, they don't know if this is a motive for the crime.

Police say no one witnessed the shooting, but someone did hear a gunshot around 2:30pm Wednesday. Another neighbor told police she heard people arguing during that same time.

The FBI is on scene right now searching the woods near Jason's home trying to find more evidence in the case. If you have any information you're urged to call Charleston Police at (304) 348-6480.
