A man walking across a street in Huntington on Sunday afternoon got hit by a car. Witnesses say the driver drove over his leg and then took off.

Witnesses say Jeffrey Harrison and Angela Mounta were crossing 31st Street at the intersection of Fifth Avenue.

The hit and run driver turned left on a green light and Harrison motioned for the car to stop while he and the woman passed. The driver let the woman pass, but for some reason the driver hit Harrison and drove over his leg.

"I was scared," said Mounts. "I went back up and helped him up and put him on the porch. I didn't know what to do. Then I called 911."

Police are looking for an early 90s Chevy Caprice. Witnesses say the car is maroon with silver trim.

If you have any information about what happened, you're asked to call the Huntington Police Department.
