HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) --- A drunk driver took a turn off the road, and straight into a church, Saturday afternoon.
According to Hurricane Police, Charles Bibbee was driving drunk and crashed his car into Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church on Teays Valley Road.
Bibbee is 27-years-old and from Hurricane; police say his blood alcohol level was .169.
The church has been boarded up, the hole is about the size of a one-car garage door.
The Reverend Cheryl Winter says her congregation "had a great Sunday of being grateful," Winter says, "it could have been so much worse for the church and the young man who had the accident."
People had been at the church about an hour before the accident happened no one at the church was injured, and neither was Bibbee.
The Reverend Winter says that Bibbee hit the most forgiving part of the church, and for that he's lucky. Hitting a steel beam, or even a telephone pole could have meant a much different outcome in the accident.
A contractor came in to patch things up so church could go on as usual Sunday morning.

Maybe we shouldn't make such jokes about him hitting this church. The point remains that he was driving while intoxicated. He could of just easily hit a car with innocent people in it. A house where a family may have been home. Let's also think that this young man could possibly lose his career due to his stupidity. A CDL license is required to have certain jobs. A DUI is not allowed on a CDL license. I hope he cleans up his act. For the sake of all.
A drive thru or drive in church. I like the idea anonymous. ahaha
His defense against the DUI charge will be, he found the Lord and he called him to the church. Find a way to blame it on God!
