NASCAR is known for its winners circle and crashes, but one driver wants the big party on the track to have a new focus. That’s because #89 is taking a new path to the checkered flag.
NASCAR driver Morgan Shepherd says he has experienced the harm alcoholism creates. In fact, he admits he's struggled with a drinking problem. So, he decided not to take on a sponsor that he doesn’t believe in…and his message is affecting his audience.
“A lot of Christians have someone to look up to who are NASCAR fans,” said Brandon Branham, from Huntington.
“NASCAR is very, very big and so if he can make his trips around the track whether he wins or not in the race he has at least won something for Jesus Christ by being able to go around and share the gospel,” said Connie Ferguson, from Huntington.
“We have a great opportunity to reach people all over the world,” said Shepherd.
It's a message that starts here at home with a picture and spreads with the speed of #89.
