The debate over police cruisers in the city of Dunbar continues this week. On Monday, Dunbar's mayor and the head of the Finance Committee, Connie Boardman, argued over a proposal to buy 3 new police cruisers.
The finance committee originally brought a proposal Monday night to purchase one new car and get rid of two older cruisers. But when the Mayor objected to the proposal, the committee and council withdrew their proposal all together. So the Police Department will continue using the current fleet of cruisers.
The Police Chief says that more than half of Dunbar's police cars have over 80,000 miles, including one that has 154,000. The mayor says one cruiser even broke down on the way to a call 3 times last week. He also maintains the money's there to buy the cruisers and it's a matter of public safety to get these cars replaced.
