Healthy Monday Report: Fruit Juice vs. Soda Pop
When you're looking for a quick refreshment, do you go for a can of soda or something a little more healthy? Some folks turn down all of that sugar and carbonation for a little juice instead. But is it necessarily a healthier choice?

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- When you're looking for a quick refreshment, do you go for a can of soda or something a little more healthy?

Some folks turn down all of that sugar and carbonation for a little juice instead.

But is it necessarily a healthier choice?

Right now, the U.S. is the leader when it comes to consuming sugary drinks -- nearly doubling the consumption of Ireland. Whether to choose a soft drink or fruit juice has been the subject of much debate.

One thing's for sure -- if you've had a long day, sometimes it's hard to stay away from soda for that little pick-me-up.

Just like soda, not all juices are created equal. Some containers at the store say 100 percent fruit juice on the back. It sounds healthy enough, but may not always be the healthiest choice.

The only reason it is hard to get kids to drink water is because people give in to them when they won't drink it right away. If they won't drink the water, don't go get them a soda. Just leave the water, and I promise they will drink it if they get thirsty.

I allow all three of my kids drink pop once or twice a day. Id allow them to drink more but its just not good for you. It effects the organs, and just think if they start drinking it early in life what it could really do to their body, plus it has alot of sugar in it . Even Diet pops arent that much better because it contains aspartame which is only a sub. for sugar which could be worst for u.And i know pop contains acid which to me hurts your stomach sometimes. But on the other hand its hard to get your kids to drink juice sometimes , let alone water.

I would never allow my child to have pop, but a small glass of juice with breakfast doesn't hurt at all. Most ts things are just fine, just in moderation and make sure its 100% fruit juice...or better yet....buy a juicer and make it fresh!...it tastes way better, and you know exactly what you are putting into your childs body, as for the rest of the day, water is prob the best choice! (my toddler likes some lemon in his for flavor...)
