Governor Manchin will be spending Halloween in China. Manchin is planning a state trade mission trip to China from October 30th to November 6th.
The trip will include stops in Shanghai; Beijing; and Taiyuan, which is the capital of Shanxi Province, a major coal-producing region.
Steve Spence is executive director of the state Development Office. He says China is a growing market for West Virginia products -- particularly in the coal mining sector.
The Beijing visit coincides with the opening of the four-day China Coal and Mining Exhibition, which at least 10 West Virginia companies will be participating in.
Spence says the goal of the trip is not only to enhance existing business partnerships between West Virginia companies and China but
to identify new opportunities as well.
According to a study by the U.S.-China Business Council, West Virginia exported 187 million dollars worth of products to China last year, a 36 percent jump from 2005.
