State workers rally over job concerns

State workers who fear that West
Virginia is moving toward privatizing public services plan to bring
their message to the Capitol this weekend.

United Electrical Radio and Machine workers of America Local 170 will rally at 9 Saturday morning in the Rotunda. They will then march to Governor Joe Manchin's house. The group says this is in protest of the governor's efforts to privatize the Department of Highways.

The DOH has begun auctioning off vehicles and equipment it never or
rarely uses. This groups says they think this is leaading to privatization.

The group is part of a union that also represents electrical
workers. It is separate from another organization representing
state employees that is part of the AFL-CIO.

But both groups have been campaigning for better pay and
improved working conditions for public employees.
