The mayor of Richwood, West Virginia has resigned. Bob Henry Baber turned in his formal resignation papers to council Monday.

This comes just one week before a Nicholas County Court was set to hear impeachment allegations, Baber will take a job with Glenville State College. The city's recorder James Myles Caldwell will take over as mayor on September 3.

Caldwell led the impeachment effort against the mayor after a fight with him in April at city hall. One councilman says the change at the top will be good for the city and its economy.

Caldwell will hold the post as mayor until the next city election in June. Baber has served as mayor of Richwood for three years.

Baber did not return our calls Monday night to talk about his resignation.
