UPDATE 7/21/11
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) – A guilty plea for a Floyd County man who tried to rob a Prestonsburg, Ky. bank dressed as a woman.
Last week, A U. S. District Court Judge in Pikeville signed the plea deal for Jonathan Hall, 49, of David and then sentenced him to three years in prison.
Hall pleaded guilty to attempting to commit bank robbery and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
The attempted bank robbery happened at the BB&T Bank at Glynnview Plaza in May 2010.
Prosecutors said Hall walked into the bank, dressed as a woman and carrying a metal box. He asked about opening a safety deposit box, but the bank informed Hall they did not have safety deposit boxes; Hall then left.
A short time later, Hall re-entered the bank and asked about opening a checking account. Bank employees called police who arrived a short time later. At that point, Hall took off, but was quickly apprehended.
Prosecutors said Hall was carrying a .22 caliber handgun and purse containing explosives without a detonation device. They also said the metal box continued a demand note and more explosives, but no detonator.
Hall told police he needed money because his wife had cancer.
During the attempted robbery, Hall was wearing a wig, lipstick, sunglasses along with a long sleeved brown shirt and jeans.

I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD JUDGE ONE ANOTHER,BUT PRAY FOR EACH OTHER,BECAUSE NO MATTER IF YOU ARE RICH OR POOR.WE WILL ALL BE JUDGED BY OUR HEAVENLY FATHER ONE DAY.I ALSO KNOW JOHN AND I HAVE NEVER KNOWN OF HIM EVER DOING ANYTHING OTHER THAN HELPING AND CARING FOR OTHER PEOPLE.I AM GLAD NO ONE GOT HURT,MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO EVERY ONE INVOLVED WITH THIS AND TO JOHN AND HIS FAMILY AND I HOPE JOHN CAN GET SOME HELP.
John is the nicest, kindest and hardest working person you will ever meet. For him to do something like this proves that he must have been desperate. It is totally out of character for him. However, when someone has been confronted with the number of hardships that he has been faced with, you do things to get by that you never would have dreamed you would do. I am not saying what he did was right, but I am saying he is a wonderful man, husband, father and grandfather. He was trying to look out for his family but went about it the wrong way.
To Amy: Excuse me were you there??? Read the newspaper.....I happened to be outside the bank when this happened and yes he did have a LOADED gun stuck down his pants......and yes he did have explosives in his PURSE.......HELLO that plaza was closed for nearly 4 hours over this. And to Jamie: Not trying to be rude but the gun was loaded. It was a very scary situation. I'm sure if you have doubts you can call the police and ask them about it yourself. I was there...I saw the bag of explosives in the purse and I saw the loaded gun the police found stuck down the front of the pants. They opened the chamber and it was fully loaded.
