When it comes to hot dogs, most of us are either a mustard or a ketchup person, but we met one local ketchup family hoping to squeeze their love of the tomato based condiment into national TV fame and fortune.
Back in the spring, Heinz challenged the country to create a home commercial celebrating their love affair with the famous topping called “The Heinz Kissable Ketchup Contest.”
The set is producer and director, Andrew Dodson's own Wheelersburg kitchen. The crew is Andrew’s fiancée, Stacy Chaberlin, and Lexi's dad. The stars are Stacy’s son Braden and Braden’s girlfriend Lexi and of course the big bottle of kissable ketchup.
My fiancée saw the contest on the bottle, I kind of ignored it until my father-in-law saw a New York Times article saying Heinz needed better entries.
Andrew says he shot the entire commercial in an hour out of necessity.
“Kids get restless, you have to shoot quickly,” Andrew said.
Dodson edited the commercial in his basement. He started his own video production company about a year ago, and believes the $57,000 first prize, as in Heinz 57, and national TV exposure might make him a major player.
“When you think of local production, some people cringe and think of wedding videos, I wanted to show them we could do quality work,” Andrew said.
Andrew and Stacy are getting married soon, and will be on their Caribbean honeymoon when Heinz announces the top this winner during the primetime Emmy’s.
“We hope to come home to winning news,” Stacy said.
So, while Andrew and Stacy are preparing for the wedding, they're also campaigning, and putting up vote for our commercial flyers all around town.
The voting is online at top of tv.com. You can watch the 15 finalists and pick the one you think is best. If you like Braden and Lexi's Kissable Ketchup spot more than the others-- vote for them.
