BETHANY, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities believe two Bethany College soccer players used a Vaseline-smeared soccer ball and the mail to smuggle marijuana from Canada to the Northern Panhandle school.

Brooke County Sheriff Richard Ferguson says deputies found a soccer ball containing marijuana in a dorm room, where they arrested 22-year-old Marc B- Auger and 20-year-old Ashkan Alavy-Chafi on possession charges last weekend.

Deputies also discovered $2,000 in cash along with the 15 grams of marijuana.

The soccer team's roster on the school's Web site lists both men as being from Toronto, Canada.

Neither has a West Virginia telephone listing and Bethany sports information director Brian Rose declined to comment on the case or say whether either player remains on the soccer team or in school.

Ferguson says additional charges may be filed.
