Virginia’s a bit too far for a field trip, so the kids at Fairland Middle School did the next best thing.

Students tapped into technology at the school Tuesday for a unique history lesson.They linked up with students in Michigan and Kentucky for a special teleconference.

The kids had a chance to listen to and talk with the author of a book on iron boats and ships of the civil war. He was at a library in Virginia.
