BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The bitter cold is hitting especially hard Friday night in one neighborhood.
On Friday afternoon, crews say the top of a delivery truck caught a phone line on Huntington Avenue in Barboursville, and in the process pulled down two power poles.
The accident left dozens of homes without power or heat.
Some neighbors chose to leave and get hotel rooms or stay at friends’ or relatives’ homes.
Others stuck it out and tried to stay warm however they could.
"My daughter got a Duck Dynasty blanket for Christmas,” Carolyn Bruce said. “I’m gonna be wrapped up in that tonight."
Tim Blake is anxious for power to be restored because he has several health problems.
“I've got congestive heart failure,” he said. “It scares me to be without electric or anything. It affects my feet more than anything because I have diabetes."
Crews say power should be restored by midnight.
