Accidents Slow Traffic Along Interstate 64 in Charleston

UPDATE 11/6/13 @ 8:30 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Interstate 64 was backed up for miles after several bags of powder fell off a flatbed truck and caused an accident.

The accident was reported just before 8 a.m. in the westbound lanes about a mile past the Oakwood entrance ramp.

Charleston Police tell WSAZ.com several bags of powder used for sandblasting fell off of a truck and abruptly stopped traffic. That's when a car rear ended a pick-up truck.

No one was hurt, but the interstate was down to one lane until the scene was cleared.

Firefighters swept and shoveled the powder off the interstate to the side of the road.

Two other accidents were reported nearby, but no one was hurt.

Wednesday's accidents also caused traffic backups on MacCorkle Avenue in South Charleston and Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston.
