UPDATE 1/27/12 @ 11:15 a.m.
ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Ohio University Police Chief says threat of a man possibly armed and dangerous near campus has passed.

Thursday night just after 6 p.m., the OUPD says they received “credible information” that Billy J. Caudill was reportedly in the vicinity of Union and Shafer Streets.

Caudill, 43, was wanted on bank robbery charge out of Fairfield County, Ohio. Police say he robbed a Peoples Bank in Carroll, Ohio on Wednesday.

Chief Andrew Powers says information the department received suggested that Caudill might be armed and should be considered dangerous.

The OUPD and the Athens Police Department brought in additional personnel and vehicles and searched the area for several hours. The search area included the Hocking Adena Bike Path from Athens to Nelsonville.

Friday morning Chief Powers said the department received additional information indicating Caudill is most likely no longer in the Athens area.

Billy J. Caudill is 5 feet 7 inches, weighs 195 pounds, has hazel eyes and is believed to be clean shaven with a shaved head.

Anyone with information on Caudill is urged to contact Athens or OU Police or call 911.
