UPDATE 9/12/13 @ 11:15 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A way to thank teachers for their service at Cross Lanes Elementary may have sent a disgruntled employee over the edge, prompting the school to be placed on lock down Thursday.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies arrested and charged Bruce Stanley, the school's custodian, outside his home Thursday after investigators say he threatened to make a gas bomb.

According to the criminal complaint, Stanley told several employees in the school cafeteria on Wednesday that he was upset he did not receive a gift card like the teachers. The teachers at the school received the gift from a retail company for their outstanding performance.

Deputies tell WSAZ.com Stanley told some school employees that if he received a gift card he would have used the money to buy materials to make a gas bomb.

The school was put on lock down Thursday as a precaution.

Principal Vanessa Brown tells WSAZ.com the children of Cross Lanes Elementary were not in any danger at any time because the alleged threat was intended for a future date.

“We've started using the driver’s license readers, so our doors are locked during the day so as far as the effect on instruction; it goes exactly the same way,” Brown said. “The only thing that happens is it that children don't use the playground during a lock down and they don't go to computer labs or library.”

Stanley was charged with making terroristic threats. He was arraigned on Thursday afternoon in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. His bond was set at $25,000 cash only.

During arraignment, Stanley declined to comment.
