Attempted Purse Snatcher Caught, Scared Off by Victim's Screams

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is facing a robbery charge after police say he tried to steal a woman's purse.

It happened Thursday about 2 p.m. in the 2600-block of 5th Avenue.

The victim was walking down the street when Billy Walker, 39, of Huntington, ran up to her and tried to grab her purse.

Police say the victim was in fear for her life and began to scream for help.

According to police, several witnesses followed Walker when he ran away and police caught him a short time later.

Walker faces 5 to 18 years in prison if he is convicted.
