UPDATE 3/11/13 @ 7 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The man wanted in connection with a Charleston murder has been arrested after being shot in an early morning shootout.

Monday, police arrested Andre Williamson, a.k.a. "A3," in connection with his involvement in an October murder.

Police arrested Williamson as soon as he was released from CAMC. Doctors were treating Williamson after he was shot in the leg Saturday during a shooting on Charleston's West Side.

Williamson faces charges of accessory after the fact in the October murder of David Booker.

Earlier this month, Richard Hilliard pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Booker's death. Police say Williamson was involved.

Williamson is also charged with first-degree robbery and prohibited person with use of a firearm.

Williamson is no stranger to police. His charges date back a decade. In 2005, he was charged with the murder of Jody Gray. When no witnesses came forward, though, prosecutors dropped the charges.

Police say Saturday's ambush-style shooting was not random.

“We believe there were possibly three or four suspects based on the crime scene and the number of shots that were fired and the number of different calibers that were used,” Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper said. “We believe there was a good chance that he was targeted and it was from different angles and from different firearms."

Williamson is being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 19.

UPDATE 12/25/12 @ 8:15 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man wanted on murder charges gave himself up to police on Christmas day, giving the victim's family an unexpected sense of Christmas peace.

David Booker was shot to death on Charleston's East End back in October. The suspect, 24-year-old Richard Hilliard, had been on the run until now.

Police say Hilliard turned himself in about 10 a.m. after approaching an officer outside the 7-Eleven on Bigley Avenue.

"It's the best Christmas present ever," Booker's mother Delores told WSAZ.com. "I couldn't ask for a better one."

Booker's sister Angelia Howze agreed.

"I am just so elated... this is the best Christmas in the world," she said. "I thank the detectives and everyone involved."

Police say Hilliard and Booker knew each other, and both had a criminal past. Hilliard previously faced charges for drugs and credit card fraud, and Booker had served time in connection with two murders.

But, Booker's family says they knew a very different side of him.

"He was a good-hearted person, but he got into this life that a lot of younger kids get into, and you know... it's hard to get out of," Howze said.

Family says spending Christmas without him is heartbreaking, but the arrest has helped to ease the pain.

Charleston Police Sergeant Bobby Eggleton says it's the first time he's ever seen a suspect turn himself in on a holiday.

"Anytime we get somebody into custody and off the street like that, it's a gift in its own way," Eggleton said.

Hilliard was wanted in connection with the murder of David Booker in October. Detectives say Booker was gunned down on Milton Street on the East End.

Arrest warrants were issued in late November for Hilliard. Detectives say they will charge him with first degree murder.

Hilliard has had run-ins with police in the past for drugs, assault and credit card fraud, according to court records.

It's still unclear what the motive was behind the murder.

UPDATE 11/19/12 @ 6:30 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police are on the hunt for a shooting suspect and have issued warrants to charge him with murder.

Richard Hilliard, 24, of Charleston, is wanted in the murder of David Booker. Booker was found shot and killed on Milton Street on the East End in October.

Until now, no suspects have ever been named in the case. Police say the two knew one another.

"Fortunately, we have been able to get several witnesses that have helped us to piece the case together and charge Mr. Hilliard," Lt. Steve Cooper said. "He does know we're looking for him, so at this point I would consider him armed and dangerous and on the run."

Hilliard has had run-ins with police in the past including drugs, assault and credit card fraud. Now, he's the sought suspect for murder.

Booker, the victim, also has been in trouble and charged in connection with two murders and drug crimes, even serving jail time.

The description of the car police thought they were looking for -- a white Ford Crown Victoria -- didn't match up. Instead, it turned out to be a fixed up white Honda.

Detectives tell WSAZ.com they've searched homes where Hilliard could be hiding out, including in Ohio, so far without finding him.

"We have information that he has used a cell phone in the Charleston area in the last few days," Cooper said.

Police say he may not be the only one facing charges. Investigators did not want to specifically say what the motivation was behind the murder.

WSAZ.com tried to obtain court records and confirmed an arrest warrant had been issued but the details are under seal until that warrant is served. Detectives say the physical evidence pointed right to Hilliard.

If you have any information that can help lead to Hilliard's arrest, call the Criminal Investigative Division of Charleston Police at 304-348-6480.
