UPDATE 7/25/13 @ 1:45 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police have identified a man who was shot to death overnight.
Lt. John Williams says Lorenzo M. Craig, 25, originally of Detroit, was found dead in a grassy area beside the Poppy's bar around 1 a.m. Thursday. The bar is located at the intersection of Hal Greer and 8th Avenue.
Police confirm Craig was inside the bar prior to the shooting. Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook says it does not appear the establishment is in anyway connected to the shooting incident.
"The owner of the bar has been extremely cooperative with our investigators," Holbrook said, "and we have not had any trouble from this establishment. It is just unfortunate that it occurred adjacent to the bar."
Holbrook said crime in this part of town has gone down over the last three to four years.
"We have done a tremendous job with reducing that number over the last three or four years to the point that this is no longer considered our hot spot in this area in particular and city wide for that matter," explained Holbrook.
Police are continuing to gather information about this shooting.
Witnesses say they heard gun shots and saw a man running south across 8th Avenue.
