BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Power was restored to approximately 1,000 customers in the Catlettsburg area about 4:45 Wednesday morning.
The outage was first reported a little after midnight.
The Boyd County Office of Emergency Management tells WSAZ.com that the warming station set up at the courthouse has been closed.
Five people were staying at the emergency shelter after the electricity went of,f but have now returned to their homes.
Power went out in Catlettsburg a little after midnight. According to AEP's Web site, over 1,000 customers in Boyd County are without power this morning.
The emergency managment office tells WSAZ.com the additional power outages were due to the power company cutting off power to fix a line that had burned, causing the original outage.
A warming station was set up at the Boyd County Courthouse overnight. Three people used the station to get warm, according to emergency management.
According to AEP’s website, 408 people in Boyd County are without power early Wednesday morning. The cause of the outage was unknown.
The outage is occurring on one of the coldest nights in recent memory – with the temperature plunging nearly to the single digits.
