UPDATE: Fire at Charleston Apartment Building Ruled Arson

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fire that destroyed an apartment building on Charleston's east end has been ruled arson.

The fire broke out on Wednesday evening on Jackson Street.

Investigators say it started on the second floor in the kitchen of an apartment.

So far, no suspects or arrests have been made in the case.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fire destroyed an apartment building in Charleston and left several people without a home.

The fire was reported Wednesday evening in the 1500-block of Jackson Street.

Firefighters say the fire gutted the upstairs of the building and the rest of the building suffered severe smoke and water damage.

No one was hurt, but the building was destroyed.

Several people lived in the building and now they are left finding a new place to live.

"When I walked down there I noticed two other dudes coming at the same time so we both just ran in there and we just bang on every door and just made sure that nobody was in there," Brandi Johnson, tenant, said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com that the building is a home that has been turned into several apartments.

Smoke was pouring out of the building.

Dispatchers say so far there have been no reports of injuries.
