UPDATE 12/14/12 @ 10:45 p.m.
ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Christopher Williams imagined spending a joyful Christmas at home with his kids, only to see his vision go up in smoke.

"We had everything and now we have nothing," he said. "The first thing my daughter asked me was 'what about my Christmas tree, what about my Christmas presents?' "

Williams is just one of many left without a home after flames tore through his Spencer apartment building Friday afternoon. Crews say it's one of the biggest fires they've ever had to fight, bringing in eight different departments from three counties.

"It wasn't safe for any of the firefighters to go inside, so we just did an exterior attack," firefighter Jamie Hart said.

No one was hurt and firefighters were able to get the flames under control before they spread to any other buildings. But they couldn't save what was left of the apartments -- leaving a small town shocked and saddened.

"It was rough because it wasn't even a year ago that my wife lost her sister in a fire," WIlliams said. "It just brings memories from that."

"I feel even worse for all the people who lost all their Christmas and all their clothes everything that was special to them," neighbor Shawna Sampson said.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused that fire.
