UPDATE 11/6/12 @ 7:30 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Fire investigators will be looking into the cause of a late night house fire in Huntington.

Dispatchers say word of the fire came in just after 10:30 Monday night at an abandoned house in the 2800-block of 8th Avenue.

Fire crews had to temporarily close 8th avenue in that area. The road reopened about 3 a.m.

Firefighters say they've developed a plan for dealing with vacant house fires.

“For all the vacant fires we've had in the city in the last year, we have a defensive attack. With a collapse potential like this we just try to let the fire burn itself out and collapse on its own so nobody else gets harmed in the days ahead,” said Captain Chris Wilson of the Huntington Fire Department.

There were no reports of injuries in the fire.

ORIGINAL STORY
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Eighth Avenue is closed late Monday night between 28th and 29th streets as Huntington firefighters battle a house that’s fully ablaze, Cabell County 911 dispatchers say.

The fire was reported about 10:40 p.m. Monday. The house was abandoned, crews at the scene tell WSAZ.com.

No injuries were reported.

Another house fire -- just outside of Huntington city limits along W.Va. 2 north of Guyandotte -- shut down both lanes of that highway earlier Monday night for about two hours, dispatchers say. That fire also involved a vacant house; no one was hurt.
