UPDATE: Man Arrested after Police Surround Huntington Home

UPDATE 8/5/13 @ 10:50 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A standoff at a home in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue ended Monday evening after police learned the suspect wasn't even in the house.

The situation included a SWAT team and several nearby streets blocked off in the area.

Michael A. Johnson, 46, of Huntington, later was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment and domestic battery, according to a criminal complaint from Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Huntington Police said Johnson got in a fight with his ex-girlfriend -- he allegedly choked her and hit her in the head with a handgun before firing the weapon.

The woman ran outside of the home in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue. When police showed up, she told them Johnson was inside alone -- armed.

Neighbors in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue were evacuated, and some streets were blocked off.

After hours of the home being surrounded and negotiators using a public address speaker trying to convince Johnson to come out quietly -- Johnson's lawyer called police and said he was not in fact inside.

Johnson later turned himself in at Cabell County Magistrate Court.

There was no word on where he was while the home was surrounded.
