UPDATE: Alcohol May Have Played Factor in I-77 Crash, 5 Hospitalized

UPDATE @ 12:45 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Five people were taken to the hospital after an accident on Interstate 77 in Charleston.

The crash was reported near the Leon Sullivan exit about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Charleston Police tell WSAZ.com Stephanie Bias, 31, of Charleston, got on the interstate at the 35th Street exit and was driving the wrong way when she hit a car head-on.

Bias was taken to CAMC General where she underwent surgery and is now listed in serious condition.

Caryn Adderly, 32, of Virgina Beach and Roncervert Randolph, 71, were in the other car. They were both taken to the hospital.

Randolph was trapped in the vehicle and suffered serious injuries, according to police.

Two teenagers were in the back seat of the car. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the group was traveling back from a funeral in Kansas.

Police say alcohol may have been involved in the accident.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 were closed for more than three hours before it reopened.

The crash was reported near the Leon Sullivan exit about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com they received word of a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-77 a short time before the crash, and confirm that vehicle was one of the two involved.

Dispatchers say there were multiple people taken to the hospital. There is no word on their condition at this time.

The interstate reopened about 7 a.m.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County 911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 are closed following a crash near the Leon Sullivan Way exit.

The crash happened about 3:30 this morning.

Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com they received word of a vehicle travelling north in the southbound lanes of I-77 a short time before the crash, and confirm that vehicle was one of the two involved.

Dispatchers say there were multiple people transported to the hospital. There is no word on their condition at this time.
