BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A bolt operator with 40 years of mining experience died in a mine accident on Wednesday.
Public Information Specialist Leslie Fitzwater says Asa Fitzpatrick, 63, of Kermit, died Wednesday from injuries he received when a piece of the mine fell from the ceiling while he was preparing to install a rib rolt.
The deadly accident happened at the Newtown Energy, Inc. Peerless Rachel Mine at Racine in Boone County.
This is the fifth fatal mine related accident in West Virginia in 2013.
The man was a roof bolter at the Newtown Energy, Inc. Peerless Rachel Mine.
Additional details were unavailable Wednesday night.
