UPDATE: Sissonville Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Kanawha County murder suspect says he's innocent.

Dale Newhouse pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder Tuesday morning in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

Newhouse is accused of shooting Jamie Shaffer to death back in September at a house in Sissonville. W.Va.

According to investigators, Newhouse shot Shaffer in the abdomen. Shaffer was able to call 911 and Newhouse waited on police to arrive.

A trial is set for July 29.

Newhouse's attorney asked for bond to be lowered, but that request was denied.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man who already has a criminal past is in jail again; this time in connection with a murder case in Sissonville.

According to court records, this is the second time Dale Thomas Newhouse, 55, of Charleston, has been accused of shooting someone.

Back in 2008, Newhouse was charged with malicious wounding when Dawn Withrow claimed he raped her and then shot her in the chest. Withrow survived, but Wednesday's shooting had a much different outcome.

Newhouse was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge. He's accused of shooting and killing James "Jamie" Bryan Shaffer, 41, of Charleston.

According to the criminal complaint, Newhouse shot Shaffer in the abdomen. Shaffer was able to call 911 and Newhouse waited on police to arrive.

Newhouse was arrested at the scene.

Shaffer was taken to CAMC General where he later died.

Police havent' released information about the relationship between the two men or a motive for the shooting. However, neighbors where the murder happened say it was over a girl.

In addition to the two shooting cases, Newhouse has also been arrested several other times.

His list of charges now include driving under the influence, fleeing while DUI, forgery of public record, driving on a suspended license, public intoxication, battery, resisting arrest, malicious wounding, assault and murder.

Meanwhile, WSAZ.com has confirmed that Shaffer, the victim in the case, also has a criminal past.

According to court records, Shaffer is a convicted sex offender. He was convicted back in 1998 for first-degree sexual abuse. He served one year and seven months for that crime.

Since then, Shaffer had also been charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license numerous times.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Kanawha County will be arraigned later Wednesday morning on a murder charge after he shot and killed a man in Sissonville.

Dale Thomas Newhouse, 55, of Charleston, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of James "Jamie" Bryan Shaffer, 41, of Charleston.

According to the criminal complaint, Shaffer called 911 about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and said he had just been shot and the man who shot him was standing over him with a 9mm gun.

When deputies arrived at the home at 3834 Sissonville Drive they found Newhouse outside of the house. Deputies say Newhouse appeared to be waiting on them to arrive.

Investigators also found Shaffer in the house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Shaffer was taken to CAMC General where he later died.

Newhouse was charged with first-degree murder and taken to South Central Regional Jail.

He will be arraigned on the charges Wednesday morning.

According to a news release, deputies are still trying to figure out the relationships between the parties involved and the exact motive for the shooting.

Deputies also say firearms were recovered at the scene.

The Kanawha Bureau of Investigation is still investigating the case. As of 8 a.m., detectives remain at the scene, executing a search warrant.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Sissonville has been charged with murder after an early morning shooting.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com Dale Newhouse shot and killed Jamie Shaffer about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Sissonville Dr. in Sissonville.

Newhouse will be arraigned on the charges later this morning.

No other details are being released at this time.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Metro 911 dispatchers in Kanawha County tell WSAZ.com a man has been shot in the chest.

It happened about 1:30 this morning on Sissonville Dr. in Sissonville.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office is investigating. The sheriff's office could not confirm if an arrest has been made.
