UPDATE: Names Released in Meigs County Shooting

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- We now know the names of the three people involved in a shooting in Meigs County, Ohio, last week.

Sheriff Robert Beegle tells WSAZ.com that Robert Hunt, 57, from Longbottom, Ohio in Chester Township shot himself after shooting his ex-wife and her daughter.

The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. Friday at a home along Taylor Road in the Chester area.

Beegle says Hunt's former wife, Keitta Whitlach, 69, was shot and flown to a Huntington hospital. Her condition at this time is unknown.

Her daughter, Kathy Miller, of Racine, was also shot. Miller was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant where she was treated and released.

Beegle says Hunt and Whitlach had a civil protection hearing Friday morning and Hunt was ordered to go to the home between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. with a witness to pick up his belongings.

After shooting the two, Beegle says Hunt turned the gun on himself. He died at a local hospital.

Ohio BCI is handling the the investigation. No other details are being released at this time.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – A man shot himself after shooting his ex-girlfriend and her daughter, the Meigs County Sheriff says.

Terry Congo says he knew his neighbor and friend of 40 years had been having some troubles with his ex-girlfriend.

"They had problems,” he said. “He never stopped here and talked about it, but I knew stuff was going on."

Those problems reached a boiling point Friday. The man and woman appeared together in court at a civil protection hearing in the morning, Meigs County Sheriff Robert Beegle said.

"They were living together and having difficulties the last month or so," Beegle said.

The sheriff says the result of that hearing was the man was supposed to leave the woman alone.

He was told to retrieve his property from their home along Taylor Road in the town of Chester Friday afternoon.

When he showed up, the sheriff says the man opened fire on his ex and her daughter.

"When we arrived the subject was in the field with a shotgun,” Beegle said. “He didn't put the gun down. We kept telling him to put it down. He suddenly kneeled, put the gun under his chin, and shot."

Investigators then went inside and found the two victims.

Beegle says the woman who was shot was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington with serious injuries.

Her daughter was taken to a hospital in Point Pleasant. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The brother of the woman who was shot tells WSAZ.com she is 68 and her daughter is in her late 40s.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The man who shot two other people and himself has died, the Meigs County Sheriff's Department says.

The other two shooting victims were a woman and her daughter.

The medical condition of those two victims was unknown Friday evening. The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. Friday at a home along Taylor Road in the Chester area.

Meigs County Sheriff Robert Beegle said the woman was flown to a Huntington hospital with serious injuries. Her daughter's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Sheriff Beegle says a man shot a woman, her daughter and then shot himself.

Beegle says the woman was flown to a Huntington hospital with serious injuries. Her daughter's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

The Sheriff says the man is believed to be in critical condition at a hospital in W.Va..

No one else was home at the time of the shooting.

The Sheriff says BCI has been called to the scene and witnesses are being interviewed at this time.
