KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Kanawha County will spend decades behind bars for pulling the trigger in a deadly shooting.
John Hudson, of Ashford, shot and killed Michelle Gillespie, 39, at a home on Shorty Road of Winifrede Hollow near Chesapeake in January 2012, then stole her car.
Tuesday, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
In court Hudson said he made a mistake.
Gillespie's father also spoke during the hearing. He said his life was destroyed when his daughter was killed.
John Edward Hudson was also indicted on grand larceny.
Hudson is accused of shooting Michelle in the head at a home on Shorty Road of Winifrede Hollow near Chesapeake. According to a news release, Hudson is also accused of stealing Gillespie's vehicle following the shooting.
His arraignment is set for August 30.

According to a news release, Michelle's boyfriend, Mark Southern, returned home from work and found her body several hours after she died.
Michelle's boyfriend told deputies Hudson had been staying with them for a few days, according to the release. Southern also told deputies Michelle's car was missing.
An investigator made contact with Hudson after the shooting and convinced him to come to Charleston and turn himself in.
At the arraignment, Hudson told WSAZ.com the shooting was an accident. Hudson was charged with murder. He's being held at the Southern Regional Jail without bond.
Investigators tell WSAZ.com Hudson and Michelle were acquaintances.
Hudson's preliminary hearing will be February 7.

Deputies say a body of a woman was found in a home along Shorty Road, which is just off Winifrede Hollow in eastern Kanawha County. That discovery was made Monday evening.
Investigators were called to the home just after 6:15 p.m.
No other details about the incident are being released late Monday night.
