UPDATE: Names Release in Crash on US 33 at Meigs-Athens County Line

UPDATE 12/30/11 @ 10:55 a.m.
MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The names of the two people involved in a crash on US 33 in Meigs County Thursday night have been released.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. near the Athens County line.

Lt. Max Norris with the Ohio Highway Patrol tells WSAZ.com that Charles Young, 27, of New Haven, W.Va., was traveling east on US 33 when he went left of center and hit a UPS truck.

Thomas Owens, 55, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, was driving the UPS semi with an attached trailer.

According to Norris, when Young went left of center, he hit the trailer and rear axle of the UPS truck.

Young was pinned in his vehicle and had to be cut out by the jaws of life.

Norris tells WSAZ.com that Young was coherent at the scene, before he was life flighted to Columbus.

Owens was taken by ambulance to an Athens Hospital. He was released Friday morning.

A cause of the accident has not been determined.



UPDATE 12/29/11 @ 8 p.m.
MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Dispatchers have now identified the person hurt in the accident as Charley Young.

He was flown to the hospital after a vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided about 5 p.m. Thursday near the Meigs-Athens County line.

Young suffered a fractured leg and glass in his hand.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Route 33 is back open following a major accident.

Meigs County Sheriff's Department dispatchers tell WSAZ.com one person has been flown to the hospital.

No word on their condition.

This after they say a vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided about 5 p.m. Thursday near the Meigs-Athens County line.

Meigs County Sheriff's Department dispatchers tell WSAZ.com one person has been flown to the hospital.

No word on their condition.

This after they say a vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided about 5 p.m. Thursday near the Meigs-Athens County line.

Crews are still on the scene working to clear the accident.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A major accident has shut down Route 33 near the Meigs-Athens County line.

Meigs County Sheriff's Department dispatchers tell WSAZ.com a vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided just after 5 p.m. Thursday.

They say one person is hurt and trapped inside one of the vehicles.

Emergency crews have called in a helicopter to take the person to the hospital.

The road is shut down in both directions.

No word on how long the road will be closed.
