One Killed in Roane County Accident; Name Released

ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) --A day to celebrate turned into tragedy for one family in Roane County.

Cary Smith was hearing north on Route 36 in Newton about 1 p.m. Monday. A pick-up truck was heading south when the two vehicles collided head on.

Smith died at the scene.

Four people in the truck were taken to the hospital.

Family members tell WSAZ.com, today was Smith's 38th birthday.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.

ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a deadly car crash on Route 36 in Roane County.

The accident happened about 1 p.m. Monday around one mile from the I-79 Wallback interchange.

Dispatchers say one person has been killed in the accident, four others are hurt.

One of those injured is being flown to the hospital.
