ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A police chase that ended in a crash started with a tip about a fugitive.
According to a news release, Deputy J.M. Martin with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office received a tip that fugitive Craig Scott, 21, of St. Albans, was seen pumping gas at the Go-Mart on West Main Street in St. Albans.
Deputy Martin responded to the tip and saw Scott in a Jeep Cherokee along with Jackie Cobb of St. Albans.
When Deputy Martin attempted to stop Scott, he fled but crashed into a light pole as he was turning onto Strawberry Road. Scott then took off on foot and was captured a short time after by Deputy Martin. Cobb didn't was and has not been charged with any crimes.
Scott was wanted on a Circuit Court Capias for failure to appear on a charge of first degree robbery. He was also charged with fleeing causing property damage, reckless driving, fleeing on foot and no operators license.
Scott was taken to the South Central Regional Jail and is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
Dispatchers say the crash happened at the corner of West Main Street and Birch Street around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
Dispatchers say a person with a warrant was in the car and that is why police were chasing it.
Two people have been taken into custody.
